Dr Rikki Thompson

About me

Born and raised in the South Island of NZ, I moved to Christchurch in 2010 to study Psychology at the University of Canterbury. There, my research in the field of Behavioural Psychopharmacology earned me my PhD in Psychology, and I completed clinical training to achieve my Registration as a Clinical Psychologist.

Since completing my training I have worked in a range of different areas and services including: Specialist Mental Health, Generalist Mental Health, Physical Health, University, and Correctional settings. I have experience supporting both adolescents and adults with a wide range of difficulties, using both individual and group based interventions. As a scientist-practitioner I employ a number of different evidence-based treatment models, with a particular focus on Meta-Cognitive and Cognitive Behavioural Therapies. I also have experience with DBT, ACT, CFT, and MI approaches.
